Bring Color To Your Garden This Fall

Straw Flowers Close-up

Fall is not typically thought of as the season of flowers. In fact, when most of us think of flowers we think of spring, and when we think of fall we think of the leaves falling. But if you put a little elbow grease into it, you can actually fill your garden with the most beautiful blooms of the autumn season. Here are a few different kinds we think will make an excellent addition.

Strawflower

These are a pretty standard fall favorite. Why pay $5 to get into the sunflower patch this October or November when you could just grow your own strawflowers? These flowers are a gorgeous mixture of red, orange, and yellow, and would add the perfect touch of autumn into your otherwise green garden. You can get 750 seeds for $5.19!

Dianthus

These guys have a nice spring and summer feel to them with their colors, but also incorporate a touch of fall with the shade of each color. Pinks, reds, and whites look gorgeous grouped together, and the smell is just unbeatable. Give them a sniff and you’ll want to keep them around this season. They only require a little bit of sun, as long as you water them really well.

Toad Lily

This kind of flower comes to life right as all of the summer flowers start to fade. If the name doesn’t already give it away, these gorgeous flowers are speckled and bright and bring a nice soft lilac color into the mix. If you choose to plant these, they will for sure be a statement piece.

Oakleaf Hydrangea

A super popular centerpiece this time of year is pinecones, and Oakleaf Hydrangeas look like little bitty pinecone plants. These will add that perfect fall touch to your landscape. They can be purple, red, and orange, so lots of beautiful colors to choose from. They’re also prest- and disease-free.
