Take to the Woods

Spending a day in the woods is a great way to reconnect with nature, get in some movement, and learn more about the incredible wildlife habitats here in Alabama. Thankfully, Andalusia is close to two gorgeous forests:

  • Frank Jackson State Park – less than 15 miles from Andalusia, the Frank Jackson State Park is on the outskirts of Opp and offers a 1,000-acre fishing lake, campsites, picnic areas, a boardwalk to the lake’s island, and walking trails full of wildlife.
  • Conecuh National Forest – the Conecuh National Forest sits near the Alabama/Florida state line and has lots of hiking trails, biking trails, a gorgeous pond, and some of the most unique forests in the country.

A Day on the Water

Not only is water calming and restorative, but it also offers lots of fun activities. If you drive just an hour or so out of Andalusia, you can spend a day splashing around:

  • Holmes Creek Paddling Trail – an hour and a half outside of town is the Holmes Creek Paddling trail where you can drift along under charming Spanish moss through the swampland. You can also visit nearby Cyprus Springs to snorkel around the wetlands!
  • Miramar Beach – the best part of living in this part of the state is the proximity to the beach! You can get to Miramar Beach in about an hour and a half to stick your toes in the white sand while you take in the famous emerald water.
  • Underwater Museum of Art – while you’re in the Miramar area, visit this neat underwater museum! It lets you dive and snorkel to see the sculptures 60-feet down that were created by local artists.
