David’s Catfish House has been a southern Alabama staple since 1983. The mom-and-pop startup serves farm raised catfish from Mississippi, and crab claws, shrimp and oysters from Alabama’s seafood capital, Bayou La Batre. The restaurant’s catfish and cheese grits were named as one of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel.
The Restaurant
David’s Catfish House batters, breading, and mixes are made from scratch on a daily basis, while the coleslaw and salads are made from the freshest ingredients available.
The restaurant originated from David and Sadie Ross in Waynesboro, Mississippi. After three years, the duo moved the restaurant to Monroeville, Alabama. The restaurants now have 10 locations throughout Alabama and Florida.
David’s Catfish House serves a variety of meals ranging from its famous catfish, to sides, lunch, dinner, sandwiches, and platters. David’s famous catfish comes with coleslaw, hushpuppies, and a choice of French fries, cheese grits or turnips.
Something for Everyone
Starters include: crab bisque, firecracker shrimp, gumbo, fried shrimp, onion rings, fried oysters, crab claws, fried green tomatoes, popcorn shrimp, fried dill pickles, and boiled shrimp.
Lunch takes place on Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. During that time, David’s Catfish House serves shrimp baskets, hamburgers, fried catfish baskets, cheeseburgers, chicken baskets, patty melts, shrimp salads, firecracker shrimp sandwiches, chicken salads, and catfish or shrimp sandwiches.
All dinners are served with coleslaw, hushpuppies, and a choice of French fries, cheese grits, or turnips. Dinner meals consist of fillet and shrimp (all you can eat), a sea food plate (a combination of fillet catfish, stuffed crab, shrimp, oysters, boiled shrimp, and onion rings), fried shrimp, firecracker shrimp plate, boiled shrimp, popcorn shrimp, crab claw plate, and more.
You can also choose from a selection of sandwiches, including patty melts, hamburgers, grilled cheeses, chicken salads, fish fillet po’-boys, firecracker shrimp po’-boys, oyster po’-boys, and shrimp po’-boys.

David’s Catfish House in Andalusia, is open Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
